Installing Split-Desktop without the Hasp Drivers
Last Updated 3 years ago

The Split-Desktop installer can be run with a command line switch that will prevent the Hasp protection key drivers from being installed. This may be useful if you get the "Setup Launcher Unicode has stopped working" error while installing Split-Deskop.

Step 1: Uninstall any Existing Split-Desktop
Use the Windows Control Panel app to uninstall any existing Split-Desktop (version 3.0 and later).

Step 2: Insert the Split-Desktop CD, (but don't install yet!)
If Windows detects the installer on the CD, cancel any attempt by Windows to run the installer automatically.

Step 3: Determine if you Have 32 or 64 bit Windows
From the Control Panel, run the System app. There should be some indication of 32 vs 64 bits, as shown in the example here.

Step 4: Open a Command Prompt Window
The two easiest ways to open the window are shown here below.

Method 1 - From the Start Menu
From the Start menu, select All Programs, then Accessories, then the Command Prompt icon.

Method 2 - From the Run box
From the Start menu, type cmd in the run box.

Step 5. Run the Installer manually with the-znohasp switch
This example assumes that your CD drive is assigned the letter D. If that's not the case, use the drive letter of your CD drive instead.

There are two installers on the CD: one for 32-bit and one for 64-bit. This is why we determined which system we're working on in the step above. In the command prompt window, type the full path to the appropriate installer on the CD, and add the switch -znohasp as shown in these examples:

Example 1 - 32-bit System

Example 2 - 64-bit System

This should launch the Split-Desktop installer, and force it to skip the step of installing the Hasp drivers.

Step 6: Install Hasp Drivers Manually (if necessary)
This is necessary only if you are going to be using a Hasp protection key (aka dongle) to run Split-Desktop.

To get the latest version of the dongle drivers, consult this article here.

After installing and with a dongle plugged in, you should be able to run the fully licensed version of Split-Desktop. If you experience any problems, find the troubleshooting tips here.
